Orbit South resident from Margate, Kent shortlisted for prestigious TPAS award

Wendy Allan was nominated for the award by staff at Orbit South, a Kent based housing association, for her tireless efforts on behalf of local residents. She was shortlisted for the award from among 120 entries across the South of England.

TPAS awards recognise the work of tenants and providers to improve people’s lives. It also allows housing providers to share examples of best practice to others so they can take real-life case studies into their own communities.

Wendy was nominated for the award for the countless hours she donates to a wide variety of committees, groups and panels. She is Vice Chair of the East Kent (Thanet) Forum and Chairs the Thanet Disability Forum.  She also is a member of Residents’ Voice, Orbit South’s resident scrutiny panel that monitors Orbit’s performance and helps drive service improvements for Orbit South residents. She also participates in the Orbit Disability Focus Group. In her spare time, she runs the ‘Evergreen Club’ a social group that provides social interaction and activities for people over the age of 50.

Wendy Allan says; “I’m very honoured and really excited to be shortlisted. The work I do with our community means everything to me. I am truly passionate about improving the lives of people who live in Margate and the Thanet area.”

“We are absolutely delighted that Wendy has been shortlisted for this award,” says Graeme Bosley, Neighbourhood Manager in Thanet for Orbit South. “Wendy is involved in so many projects and community initiatives, it’s hard to keep track of what she’s doing next! She makes a real difference to the lives of residents in Dane Valley and the residents of Orbit South.”

TPAS is one of the longest serving tenant organisations in Europe with over 20 years experience informing and supporting tenant and landlord members to challenge, influence and control how their housing services should be delivered. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 6 May.
